Tomi Ramen & Sake Bar now occupies 1,432 square feet at the Paseo Plaza, a neighbor to Soho Sushi Burrito, the Hawaiian menu of Maui Rose and the former home of Landry’s Seafood House.

Featuring counter-service and table seating, the Tomi appetizers include $5 takoyaki, $6 fried baby octopus, $5 chicken karaage, and $6 soft shell crab.

Ramen dishes are all priced at $8.50, and diners have the option of a tonkotsu, shoyu, miso, or vegetable base with chashu, chicken breast, and tofu ingredients prepared at levels of “zero” all the way up to “super spice.”

Extra toppings and rice bowls can upgrade any meal and hot sake is available in $4 and large $7 servings.

An already big year for the Mon Restaurant Group now includes the surprise arrival of a “super premium matcha salon,” directly facing Mon’s own Kabuto Edomae Sushi and a short walk from the company’s Monta Japanese Noodle House.

Taking over suite 6, next door to the Sagos Tavern, Chamon Matcha Salon sits at the intersection of Spring Mountain Road and Hauck Street, in Chinatown’s famed Seoul Plaza retail center. In the works since last September, Spring Mountain experts W G Constructors are part of the interior overhaul.

Currently hiring and announcing a July 27 debut, Chamon will serve “premium Matcha products such as freshly brewed green tea, soft serve ice cream and much more!”

The finely ground matcha will be imported from Uji, a Japanese city south of Kyoto renowned for “producing the best quality matcha in the whole wide world.”

Opening hours and a full menu are yet to be revealed.

Yet to be confirmed, but looking a very strong possibility, award-winning Japanese restaurant Raku appears to be making very quiet plans for a new concept to debut less than two miles from its Chinatown home.

Long rumored to be expanding, Aburiya Raku as it is officially named, has been a must-visit off-Strip destination since 2008 for chef Mitsou Endo’s tofu, omakase menu, and robata dishes grilled over charcoal.

Paperwork was first filed back in April and revived earlier this month for the creation of Teppan By Raku, suggesting a future menu focused and prepared on a flat, iron griddle.

Located at the Flamingo Arville Plaza next to the Palms resort, the strip mall sits at the intersection of Flamingo Road and and Arville Street and is home to Umiya Sushi and the now shuttered Izakaya Cocokala Japanese restaurant.

W G Constructors have been assigned to the project and earlier this year an estimated budget of $210,000 was allocated to cover construction costs on the 1,200-square-foot makeover. The firm has previously worked with Raku to complete its long planned patio extension at the compact and always busy original location.

Teppan would become the third local outpost for the team. The highly inventive Sweets Rakudebuted a short walk from Raku in 2013, continuing the reputation of the Seoul Plaza on Spring Mountain Road as a beacon of culinary creativity. A California expansion for the main restaurant to West Hollywood followed in 2015.

Further details of the new space, or an estimated timetable for completion, have not been revealed.

First revealed last August, Gäbi Coffee & Bakery is racing to debut in March at the Mountain Point Business Park on Spring Mountain, already home to Taiwan’s Chatime, Hobak Korean BBQ, and the Tokyo-style dishes at Ramen Hashi.

The 2,944-square-foot Korean coffee concept will welcome customers to an “exotic, but stylish” interior that appears to be carefully following early plans created by locals W G Constructors. The coffee shop and bakery will add a “greehouse roasting room,” indoor trees, vintage hardware, Edison bulbs handing from driftwood, and window ledge seating, built with stacks of books looking out onto Spring Mountain Road.

Currently hiring, Gabi’s full menu has yet to be revealed, but will serve a full range of coffee drinks, baked goods created on site such as croissants, bread, Danishes, tarts, and cakes, plus sandwiches and savory choices featuring dressings and sauces made in house.

The cafe’s name is inspired by the 2012 Korean historical drama, Gabi, based on the failed 1898 assassination attempt of King Gojong by spiking his cups of coffee with opium.
